WordPress SEO: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

WordPress is a sound base for SEO, but out of the box it creates pages you never asked for. Tag archives, author archives, date archives and internal search results can all end up in Google, often as thin duplicates of your real content. Older sites may still have attachment pages, one for every image uploaded, each a near-empty URL.

Plugins add their own problems. Two SEO plugins running together print duplicate title tags and conflicting schema. Page builders such as Elementor and Divi load heavy CSS and JavaScript that drag down Core Web Vitals. We also still find launched sites with "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" ticked under Settings, Reading.

We configure one SEO plugin properly, usually Yoast or Rank Math, decide which archive types should be indexed, tidy the XML sitemap, fix permalinks and redirects, and tune caching and images for speed. Every change is made on a staging copy first where your host supports it.

It suits you if.

  • Your WordPress site has been worked on by several developers
  • Google indexes tag, author or attachment pages you do not want
  • You run Elementor, Divi or WPBakery and pages feel slow
  • You are unsure whether Yoast, Rank Math or both are active
  • Search Console reports many "Crawled, currently not indexed" pages

What we do.

SEO plugin configuration

One plugin, set up properly: title templates, noindex rules for archives, breadcrumbs, Organization or LocalBusiness schema and a clean sitemap.

Archive and taxonomy clean-up

We decide which categories and tags deserve to be indexed, merge thin tags and noindex date, author and search archives where they add nothing.

Attachment page fix

Image attachment URLs are redirected to the file or parent post, matching what WordPress has done by default on new installs since version 6.4.

Speed for page builders

We tune WP Rocket or LiteSpeed Cache, defer unused scripts, serve WebP or AVIF images and cut plugin weight to improve LCP and INP.

Permalinks and redirects

Clean post name permalinks, with a redirect plugin such as Redirection handling any URL changes so links are not lost.

Search spam protection

Spammers sometimes push junk queries into WordPress search URLs to get them indexed. We block that with noindex and robots rules.

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Audit the install

We check WordPress and PHP versions, active plugins, the theme, core settings and how Google currently sees the site.

  2. 02

    Plan the changes

You get a list of what we will change and why, including anything that affects how the site looks.

  3. 03

    Apply on staging

Changes are made on a staging copy where possible, tested, then pushed live at a quiet time.

  4. 04

    Verify in Search Console

We resubmit sitemaps, request indexing for key pages and watch the page indexing report over the following weeks.

Questions people ask.

How much does WordPress SEO cost?

We quote a fixed price once we have seen the site. A small brochure site with a few plugins is a short job, while a large blog or a site with years of plugin changes takes longer. Premium plugin licences, if needed, are yours at cost.

Should I use Yoast or Rank Math?

Either works well. What matters is running one, configured properly. If you already use one we usually keep it, because switching can change titles and schema across the site. We will move you only if your current plugin cannot do something you need.

Will this break my site?

We take a full backup first and work on staging where your host allows it. Plugin and theme changes are tested before going live, and we can roll back quickly if anything looks wrong after release.

Can you also look after it afterwards?

Yes. WordPress needs regular core, plugin and PHP updates, and updates can reset settings or add bloat. Our WordPress support plans keep it patched and check the SEO settings after each round of updates.
