Payment Gateway Integration: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

A payment gateway is the service that takes a customer's card or wallet details and moves the money to your bank. The UK has plenty to choose from: Stripe, PayPal, Opayo (formerly Sage Pay), Worldpay, Square, SumUp, and GoCardless for Direct Debit. Each has different fees, payout times and features.

We start by looking at how you sell. A shop with lots of small orders, a trade business taking large invoice payments and a gym collecting monthly memberships all suit different providers. If you already have a merchant account through your bank, we can usually connect that rather than starting again.

Then we do the integration: the payment page, confirmation and failure handling, refunds, receipts and the link into your accounts. Hosted payment pages keep card details off your server, which cuts your PCI DSS paperwork (the card industry's security standard) down to the shortest self-assessment questionnaire.

It suits you if.

  • You are choosing a payment provider and want a straight comparison
  • Your bank has given you a merchant account and you need it connected
  • An old gateway integration on your site is failing or out of date
  • You need Direct Debit for regular payments as well as card payments
  • Refunds and reconciliation are a manual chore

What we do.

Provider comparison

A short written comparison of fees, payout times and features for your type of business.

Hosted payment pages

Card details are entered on the provider's secure page or embedded fields, so they never touch your server.

3D Secure handled

Strong Customer Authentication checks work properly on desktop and mobile, so genuine payments are not lost at the bank check.

Refunds from your admin

Your staff can refund from your own admin area, with the change reflected in your orders and accounts.

Several ways to pay

Cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna or Direct Debit offered where they suit your customers.

Questions people ask.

Which payment gateway is cheapest?

There is no single answer, because fees depend on your card mix, order sizes and volume. A provider with a monthly fee can beat a pay-as-you-go one at higher volumes, and the reverse at lower ones. We compare them using your real figures on the free call.

How much does a payment gateway integration cost?

Connecting a mainstream gateway to WooCommerce or Shopify can be quick, as plugins and apps exist. Custom websites, apps and older gateways take more work. We give a fixed quote after the free call. The gateway's own fees are paid by you directly to the provider.

Do I need to worry about PCI compliance?

Every business that takes cards has some PCI DSS responsibility, but hosted payment pages or embedded fields keep card details off your systems. That usually means the shortest self-assessment questionnaire. We set things up that way and explain what your provider will ask you to confirm each year.

Can you move us from one gateway to another?

Yes. We run the new gateway alongside the old one, switch over at a quiet time and keep the old one open for refunds on earlier orders. Saved cards and recurring payments need extra planning, because card details usually cannot move without both providers cooperating, and we explain the options.
