Ecommerce SEO for shops with real stock to sell
We work on the category pages, product data and site structure that decide whether shoppers find you or a marketplace.
In plain English.
Online shops have SEO problems that brochure sites never see. Filters create thousands of near-duplicate URLs. Products go out of stock and leave dead pages. Manufacturer descriptions appear word for word on dozens of other sites. Category pages often carry no text at all, so Google has little to go on.
We start with the category pages, because they match the broad searches that bring in buyers, then work down to products. That means unique copy where it counts, product schema for prices and stock, sensible handling of filtered URLs and a plan for discontinued lines.
We also check your Google Merchant Center feed, since free product listings in the Shopping tab draw on the same data. We build and support WooCommerce shops, including for GSM Performance, so we know which fixes are worth the effort on a busy catalogue.
It suits you if.
- You run a WooCommerce, Shopify or other online shop
- Most sales come from ads or marketplaces and you want organic orders
- Your product pages use the manufacturer's descriptions
- Filters and sorting have created a mess of URLs in Google
- You add and remove products often
What we do.
Category page content
Short, useful copy on category pages covering what shoppers need to choose, placed so it does not push products off the screen.
Product schema
Product, Offer and review markup so Google can show price, stock and ratings in results.
Faceted navigation control
Filter and sort URLs handled with canonicals, noindex or robots rules so crawl effort goes to pages that matter.
Out-of-stock and discontinued rules
A clear policy for temporary and permanent removals, using redirects where a close replacement exists.
Merchant Center checks
Feed errors and disapprovals reviewed so your free listings in the Shopping tab are not held back.
How it runs.
- 01
Crawl the catalogue
We crawl every category, product and filter URL to see what Google is spending its time on.
- 02
Rank by revenue
Fixes are ordered by the categories and products that sell best or have the most search demand.
- 03
Fix structure, then content
Duplicate and filtered URLs are brought under control before we write new category and product copy.
- 04
Track orders
Organic sessions, revenue and Merchant Center health are reported each month.
Questions people ask.
Do I need to rewrite every product description?
No. On a large catalogue that is rarely worth it. We focus on best-sellers, products with real search demand and category pages. The rest can stay as they are, or be improved gradually as time and budget allow.
Which shop platforms do you work with?
Mostly WooCommerce and Shopify, and we can work on Magento, BigCommerce and others. The principles are the same everywhere. What changes is how much control the platform gives you over URLs, canonical tags and page templates.
Will this affect my Google Shopping ads?
It can help them. Better product titles, attributes and images in your feed improve free listings and paid Shopping ads alike. We do not change your ad campaigns unless you ask, but we tell you if feed changes are likely to affect them.
How do you charge for ecommerce SEO?
A one-off fee for the initial audit and fixes, then a monthly fee if you want ongoing content and monitoring. Both are fixed, based on the size of your catalogue, and set out in writing after the free call.
