APIs that open your data to the right people

We design, build and document secure APIs, so your mobile app, your partners or your customers' systems can work with your data directly.

API Development: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

API integration connects other people's systems. API development is building your own. You might need one because you are launching a mobile app, because trade customers want stock and prices fed straight into their systems, or because a partner wants to send you orders automatically instead of by email.

We build REST APIs, the most common style, in Laravel or Node, with JSON responses and an OpenAPI specification. That specification is a machine-readable description that produces clear documentation and lets other developers try calls in their browser. Each customer or partner gets their own API key, with limits on what they can see and how often they can call.

Good APIs are dull to use, in the best sense. Predictable naming, sensible error messages and versioning mean a change you make next year does not break every system that relies on you. We also add logging, so you can see who is calling and when.

It suits you if.

  • You are building a mobile app that needs a secure back end
  • Trade customers ask for a live stock or price feed
  • Partners want to send you orders or bookings automatically
  • Your internal systems need a clean way to share data
  • An old API you rely on is undocumented or insecure

What we do.

OpenAPI documentation

Interactive docs generated from the specification, so other developers can understand and test your API quickly.

Keys and permissions

API keys or OAuth 2.0 tokens per client, each limited to the data and actions they are allowed.

Rate limiting

Limits per key protect your system from runaway scripts and unexpected bursts of traffic.

Versioning

Breaking changes go into a new version, so existing users keep working until they choose to move.

Usage logging

Every call is logged by client, so you can see adoption, spot misuse and answer support questions.

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Free call

Tell us who will use the API and what they need to do with your data.

  2. 02

    Design first

We write the specification before any code, and share it with the first partner or app developer for comment.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We build each endpoint with automated tests and a sandbox, so partners can start connecting early.

  4. 04

    Launch and support

We go live, issue keys to the first users and monitor usage and errors from day one.

Questions people ask.

What does API development cost?

It depends on how many endpoints are needed and which systems the API reads from. A focused API for a mobile app or a stock feed is a modest project. We agree a fixed price after the free call and a short design stage, before any build work starts.

Is it safe to expose our data through an API?

It is when it is built carefully. Every request is authenticated, every key is limited to specific data, traffic is encrypted over HTTPS and requests are rate limited. We also log access, so unusual activity stands out. You choose exactly what is exposed and to whom.

Will other developers find it easy to use?

That is the point of designing it first and documenting it properly. Partners get interactive OpenAPI docs, a sandbox to test against and clear error messages. We can also join a call with a partner's developer when they first connect.

Can you add an API to our existing system?

Often, yes. If your system has a database we can safely read from, we can build an API layer alongside it without rewriting the whole thing. If the existing code is fragile, we will tell you and suggest the safest way to go about it.
