2D CAD Drafting: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

Plenty of work only needs 2D. A laser cutter needs a clean DXF profile, a builder needs a dimensioned layout, a workshop needs a plate drawing with hole positions. We draft with sensible layers, correct line types and accurate scale, so the file works for the person receiving it and not only on screen.

For engineering parts we follow BS 8888 conventions: first or third angle projection shown in the title block, dimensions in millimetres, general tolerances noted and revisions recorded. For cutting files we close every profile, remove duplicate lines and draw at 1:1 so the machine reads the geometry exactly. We also turn hand sketches and marked-up prints into clean CAD.

It suits you if.

  • A laser, plasma or waterjet cutter has asked for a DXF
  • You need dimensioned drawings for a workshop or contractor
  • You have hand sketches that need to become proper drawings
  • Your existing drawings are messy files nobody can edit

What we do.

Cutting-ready DXF

Closed profiles at 1:1 with no duplicate or overlapping lines, ready for laser, plasma, waterjet or router.

Layer structure

Logical layers for outlines, hidden detail, centre lines, dimensions and notes, so the file is easy to edit.

Drawing standards

Title blocks, projection symbols, tolerances and revision tables in line with BS 8888.

Sketch conversion

Hand sketches and marked-up prints turned into accurate, editable drawings.

How it runs.

    Free call

Tell us what the drawing is for and who will be working from it.

  2. 02

    Information

Send sketches, measurements, photos or old drawings, whatever you have.

  3. 03

    Draft and check

We draft the drawing and send a PDF for you to check dimensions and notes.

  4. 04

    Issue

Final DWG, DXF and PDF files are issued, ready for your supplier or contractor.

Questions people ask.

Should I ask for DWG or DXF?

DWG is the native AutoCAD format and is best for drawings that will be edited. DXF is an exchange format that most cutting machines and CAM software import directly. We usually supply both so the recipient can use whichever they prefer.

What is first and third angle projection?

They are two ways of arranging views on a drawing. Third angle is common in the UK and US, first angle across much of Europe. Both are accepted under BS 8888 as long as the symbol in the title block shows which is used. We use whichever your supplier expects.

How much does 2D drafting cost?

Most 2D work is quoted per drawing, based on complexity. A single plate with holes is a small job, while a full layout with many details is larger. We confirm a fixed price after seeing your sketches, before any drafting begins.

Can you work to our own CAD standards?

Yes. If you have a template, title block or layer standard, send it over and we will draw to it, so our files sit alongside yours without anyone needing to tidy them afterwards.
