Traffic Drop Analysis: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

A sudden fall in traffic is alarming, and the guesses start straight away. Was it a Google update? A competitor? The new website? Often the answer is something simpler, such as a broken analytics tag, a consent banner change that hides visits, or a robots.txt rule that went live by mistake.

We work through it methodically. First we check the data is real by comparing GA4 with Search Console. Then we look at timing against Google's confirmed updates, at which pages, queries and devices lost traffic, at technical changes on your site, and at whether the results page itself changed, for example with new AI Overviews or shopping units above you.

You get a short report naming the most likely cause, the evidence behind it and what to do about it. If the fix is simple, we can often do it straight away. If it needs a bigger piece of work, we tell you what it involves and what it would cost.

It suits you if.

  • Visits from Google fell and you do not know why
  • You recently relaunched, migrated or changed theme
  • GA4 and Search Console seem to disagree
  • Enquiries are down and you want to know whether search is the reason
  • You need an answer before deciding where to spend money

What we do.

Data sanity check

GA4, Search Console and your sales or enquiry figures compared, so a tracking fault is not mistaken for a real fall.

Timeline matching

The drop lined up against Google updates, site releases, plugin changes and hosting events.

Segment breakdown

Losses split by page, query, device, country and search feature to locate where the drop sits.

Technical checks

Robots.txt, noindex tags, redirects, canonicals and server errors checked for recent changes.

Results page changes

Live search results reviewed for new AI Overviews, ads, maps or shopping units pushing organic listings down.

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Check the numbers

We confirm the fall shows in Search Console as well as in analytics.

  2. 02

    Line up the dates

Every relevant event is placed on one timeline next to the traffic data.

  3. 03

    Narrow it down

Segments and technical checks point to the pages and causes involved.

  4. 04

    Report and recommend

You get the diagnosis, the evidence and a plan, with no obligation to use us for the fix.

Questions people ask.

How quickly can you tell me what happened?

Usually within a few working days once we have access, depending on how much data and history there is. If we find a quick technical fault early, we tell you straight away instead of waiting for the full report.

What access do you need?

Read access to Search Console and GA4, and ideally to your website admin or a list of recent changes. If you have sales or enquiry figures, those help confirm whether the drop affects the business or only the reports.

What if the drop is caused by AI Overviews?

Then the response is different. You may be ranking as well as before but getting fewer clicks. We show you the evidence and talk through options, such as targeting different searches or improving your chances of being cited in the overview itself.

What will the analysis cost?

A fixed price for the analysis, quoted after a quick look at your site on the free call. Any fixes are quoted separately, so you only pay for the work you choose to go ahead with.
