We connect the DVSA MOT History API to your website, CRM or workshop tools, so test results, advisories and mileage are there when you need them.

The DVSA MOT History API gives approved businesses the MOT record for vehicles tested in Great Britain: test dates, pass or fail results, odometer readings, expiry dates and every defect and advisory noted by the tester. It also returns make, model, fuel type and colour. Used well, it powers reminders, better used car listings and more useful conversations at the service desk.
Access is free but not automatic. You register with DVSA, describe how you will use the data and, once approved, receive an API key along with client credentials for the OAuth sign-in that the current version of the API uses. We help with the application and keep the credentials on the server, never in the browser.
It helps to know what the data cannot do. It holds nothing on outstanding finance, insurance write-offs or stolen markers, which need a paid history check. A car under three years old will usually have no tests yet. We design around those gaps so customers are never shown a misleading picture.

Odometer readings across tests are plotted, so a drop or an odd gap stands out when you appraise a car.

Questions people ask.
Does the MOT History API cost anything?
DVSA does not charge for the API itself. You pay for our build and, if you want it, ongoing support. SMS reminders carry a per-message cost from the SMS provider, which you pay to them directly.
How long does DVSA approval take?
It varies, and DVSA sets the pace. We prepare the technical parts while you wait, so the build can start as soon as the credentials arrive. Nobody outside DVSA can speed up the approval itself, so we plan the timeline around it.
Can I send MOT reminders to everyone in my records?
Only to people who agreed to receive them, or existing customers who were given a clear way to opt out. We set reminders up with recorded consent and an unsubscribe link in every message, which keeps you on the right side of PECR, the UK rules on electronic marketing.
Will this work with my existing garage software?
Often, yes. If your system can export or receive customer vehicle data, we can sync MOT dates into it or run reminders alongside it. We check what your software allows before giving you a fixed price.
