Magento catalogues Google can crawl without getting lost

We sort the canonical settings, layered navigation, store views and speed problems that large Magento 2 stores collect.

Magento SEO: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

Magento, sold as Adobe Commerce alongside the free Magento Open Source, is built for big catalogues and complex pricing. That power produces SEO problems at scale. Layered navigation turns every filter combination into a crawlable URL, and with a few attributes a catalogue of ten thousand products can expose millions of them.

Configuration matters a great deal. In the catalogue Search Engine Optimization settings, options such as "Use Categories Path for Product URLs" and the canonical link tags decide whether each product has one URL or several. Get them wrong and Google sees the same product under every category it belongs to. The url_rewrite table can also swell and slow reindexing.

We also handle multi-store and multi-language setups, where hreflang is not built in and needs an extension or custom module, and the speed problems of the default Luma theme. Many stores now move to the Hyvä theme for Core Web Vitals, and we plan the SEO side of that change. Stores still on Magento 1, which reached end of life in 2020, need a migration plan first.

It suits you if.

  • Your store runs on Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce
  • Search Console reports far more URLs than you have products
  • You run several store views for countries or languages
  • The Luma theme is slow on mobile
  • You are moving off Magento 1 or onto another platform

What we do.

SEO configuration review

Every catalogue SEO setting is checked, including URL suffixes, category paths in product URLs and canonical link tags for products and categories.

Layered navigation control

Filter combinations that match real searches can become indexable landing pages, and the rest are kept out with robots rules, nofollow and canonicals.

Configurable and simple products

Child products set to "Not Visible Individually" stay out of the index, and the configurable parent carries the content and schema.

Store views and hreflang

Correct hreflang between store views and countries, added through a trusted extension or a custom module.

Speed and theme work

Full page cache with Varnish, image optimisation and JavaScript bundling on Luma, or SEO planning for a move to Hyvä.

XML sitemaps by cron

Sitemaps in the Marketing section are set to regenerate on schedule and to leave out non-indexable URLs.

How it runs.

  1. 01

    Audit configuration and crawl

We review admin settings, extensions and theme, then crawl a sample with parameters enabled to measure the URL sprawl.

  2. 02

    Plan with your developer

Magento changes often need a developer and a deployment process. We agree who does what and test on staging.

  3. 03

    Implement

Settings, robots rules, templates and extensions are changed in a controlled release, followed by reindexing and cache flushes.

  4. 04

    Monitor crawl and index

Search Console crawl stats, indexing reports and server logs show whether Googlebot is spending its time on the right URLs.

Questions people ask.

How much does Magento SEO cost?

Magento work is scoped as a project and priced before anything starts. It usually needs more testing and deployment effort than smaller platforms, so we scope it carefully. Paid extensions, if needed, are bought in your name at cost.

Do you work with our existing Magento developer?

Yes, and it is often the best route. We write clear specifications for settings and template changes, review their work on staging and check the result after release. If you do not have a developer, we can arrange one.

Should we move off Magento?

Sometimes. If you are on Magento 1, a move is overdue for security reasons alone. On Magento 2 it depends on catalogue size, budget and how much custom functionality you rely on. We can give an honest view and handle the SEO side of any move.

What access do you need to our store?

A Magento admin user with limited roles, Search Console access and, ideally, server log files. Logs show exactly which URLs Googlebot crawls, which is the clearest evidence you can get on a large store.
