SEO Competitor Analysis: where you are, the work, and where it gets you.

In plain English.

Your search competitors are not always your business rivals. A national retailer, a directory or a comparison site might hold the spots you want. We start by finding who actually ranks for your most valuable searches, then study what they have that you do not.

The analysis covers three gaps. A content gap shows topics and questions they cover and you do not. A link gap analysis lists sites linking to two or more competitors but not to you, which are often the most realistic link prospects. A search feature check shows who owns the map pack, Shopping results, video and AI Overview citations.

We also look at the less visible signals: site structure, page speed, schema markup, review volume and how often they publish. The point is to find the gaps you can realistically close with your budget, and to skip the ones you cannot.

It suits you if.

  • A competitor appeared above you and you do not know why
  • You are entering a market with established players
  • You want link prospects with a proven record in your sector
  • Directories and big brands crowd out your results
  • You need evidence to set a realistic SEO budget

Questions people ask.

How much does competitor analysis cost?

Price is agreed before we begin, based on how many competitors and search terms we compare. Looking at three to five competitors across your main services suits most small and medium businesses, and keeps the findings focused.

Can you copy what my competitor does?

We can learn from it, but copying content is a bad idea for legal and ranking reasons. The useful lessons are which topics they cover, which sites link to them and how their pages are structured. We then aim to do each of those better.

How often should this be repeated?

Once a year is enough for most businesses, or sooner if a new competitor appears or rankings shift. Ongoing rank tracking can flag when a rival starts moving, so you are not caught out between reviews.

Do I choose the competitors?

You can, and we add the ones search data shows. Send us the businesses you consider rivals and your most important services, plus Search Console access so we compare against your real data. Often the sites beating you are not the ones you expected.
